This November the UN Climate Change meeting will be held in Montreal and Lord May of Oxford, the President of the Royal Society, has said that top of the Agenda should be an assessment of the maximum concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere which could be allowed in order to avoid the most catastrophic effects of climate change. We could then plan cuts in worldwide emissions accordingly and direct our efforts to tackle what is the biggest environmental threat we face today.
Several other leading British scientific institutions, including the Government funded Natural Environment Research Council, the Royal Geographical Society and the British Association also warned of the dangers from climate change if we continue to pump carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.David Cameron, a contender for leadership of the Opposition, said that the need to tackle climate change is urgent and he would establish a cross-party Commission to create a long-term framework for energy and the environment. | This year, for the first time ever, European Mobility Weeks was launched outside of Brussels.London hosted the event in September at City Hall, where the central theme was “Clever Commuting” which aimed to get people to think about the ways they travel.Green Motorsport showed that powering vehicles from renewable energy is already a practical reality. The batteries on their high performance electric racing kart are kept topped up with solar panels and micro wind turbines. |
Green Motorsport was also a centre of attraction on Green Canary Day in London, which was organized by Good Going in association with Canary Wharf Estates.Crowds of people from the surrounding offices streamed out and were impressed by the performance of the electric kart. |

Public awareness
Green Motorsport educates children and their parents at events around the country throughout the year. They show that renewable energy is a practical solution now. Solar panels and micro wind turbines keep the batteries of their electric karts topped up and a biodiesel generator is being supplied by one of their sponsors. They also intend to use hydrogen fuel cells to recharge the batteries.
Green Motorsport is helping to develop the most cost effective renewable energy technologies which can be replicated around the country. Users of renewable fuels will be shielded from future price fluctuations and possible shortages of oil and gas. |

Renewables the Cinderella!
The Government’s Chief Scientist, Sir David King, reiterated his view at a conference last month that the increase in global warming gases is unprecedented for at least 800,000 years, but he did not explain why the UK is continuing to increase its use of fossil fuels! The Government has not met the commitment it made in the White Paper for a programme with new energy technologies which would match that of other countries, indeed they have just announced a cut back in capital grant support for micro-renewables.Innovative energy companies which are trying to develop and bring to market the renewable technologies which are so desperately needed are still being starved of finance.
