Green Motorsport gathers momentum!

Electric Racing Series

Green Motorsport at the Business Design Centre

Green Motorsport displayed its high performance electric racing kart at the Business Design Centre in London on the occasion of the Clean Energy Technology & Investment Show during May. The electric kart was backed up by its transporter, with solar panels in the roof and two micro wind turbines, which are used to partly recharge the batteries. Further charging capacity will soon be supplied by a biofuel generator and hydrogen fuel cells.

The Clean Energy Technology & Investment Show brought together developers of innovative energy technologies and financiers, in order to expedite the commercialization of future clean technology solutions. They were spurred on by the recent rise in oil prices as well as growing concern about the impacts of global warming. The Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone, has also called for cleaner motive power systems in London, which suffers from the worst air pollution in the UK.

London Green Lifestyle Show

On World Environment Day in June the Mayor of London organized the London Green Lifestyle Show in Greenwich Park. This kicked off London Sustainability Week, the first festival organised by the Mayor celebrating the work taking place to make London a truly sustainable world city. The event was powered using renewable energy sources, waste was recycled and noise and air pollution were minimised.

The quiet humming of the powerful electric motor in Green Motorsport’s racing kart could not be heard above the songs of Kele Le Roc, a supporter of Green Motorsport, and the background music composed by Pierre, Green Motorsport’s new Workshop Manager. The solar panels in the roof of Green Motorsport’s kart transporter contributed to the renewable energy being generated all around the festival.

Apart from Green Motorsport’s display there was a green home, showcasing the most energy efficient home appliances, and innovative ways in which Londoners can “green” their homes. Close to Green Motorsport’s display were London’s hydrogen powered buses, which emit no local air pollutants or carbon dioxide. The event was supported by Transport for London, the London Development Agency, the Environment Agency, Greenwich Borough Council and the Royal Parks Agency.

Electric Racing Series in 2006-7

Green Motorsport’s series of 8 races with electric karts powered by renewable energy is planned to start between April 2006-7. This will be held under the auspices of the British Racing Drivers’ Club Stars of Tomorrow.
