2014 WAVE ELECTRIC CAR RALLY

The popularity of (WAVE), with its growing number of participants, has demonstrated how quickly battery powered vehicles are adapting to all types of driving conditions, from local urban roads to long distance routes and demanding conditions in the high Swiss Alps. A major objective of WAVE is to encourage the installation of the recharging infrastructure and each year we find more enthusiastic suppliers enabling us to recharge our cars. This will take some time to complete, but in the meantime, each WAVE team feeds electricity from a renewable source, such as wind or solar, into the grid in their home country. En route they can withdraw that energy from any power socket.

Last year the WAVE teams including Green MotorSport achieved the world record for an electric vehicle parade, with over 300 battery powered vehicles. The Guinness Book of Records has confirmed that our world record for the largest electric vehicle parade at the Zurich festival 2013 has been officially accepted. The new world record now stands at 305 vehicles, which made it back to the start/finish line. Green MotorSport will be displaying the team certificate as soon as it's available.

New categories of vehicles

In 2014, for the first time, the WAVE TROPHY will be awarded to three categories: Vehicles with more than 900 kg empty weight Vehicles with less than 900 kg empty weight (including motor bikes) E-bikes (which can be powered by muscle power, too) In this way, the competition will be more interesting, and each vehicle will only be compared to similar vehicles. This also means that more prizes will be awarded!

Green MotorSport car for WAVE 2014

Green MotorSport is planning to be driving a new, lightweight, efficient utility electric vehicle, which we have been developing with ZCars in the UK. As the means of recharging battery electric vehicles becomes available, there is a quickly growing market for electric vehicles powered by renewable energy. Events in each city visited will be organized to spread this powerful message to a global audience: Let’s move the whole world to renewable energies and electric mobility! We will visit governments, business leaders, schools and places of interest.

Green MotorSport is an important part of the WAVE team, helping with the technical demonstrations and the infrastructure development.

Cutting global warming gases

Prof David Mackay in his book entitled Sustainable Energy - without the hot air, recommends that the highly efficient battery electric car should be introduced widely in order to cut global warming gases. He assesses the energy efficiency of the battery electric car at 20kWh(e) per 100 km compared with 69 kWh per 100 km for the Honda hydrogen fuel cell Clarity car and 80kWh(e) for a petrol car. Green MotorSport's new concept in electric drive systems is flexible enough to power a full range of electric vehicles. They are also working with the Growing Air Foundation (GAF) of Amsterdam to begin the changeover to battery power with zero emissions. GAF will be using Green MotorSport drivetrains in suitable vehicles to help plant trees and forests around the world. GAF is also supporting our efforts in WAVE.

Clean up our Air!

Electric vehicles powered by renewable energy will play a leading role in reducing emissions from transport and improving the quality of life in our cities. The EU has just launched a new plan to clean up Europe’s air. The Environment Commissioner, Janez Potoènik said “Air pollution is still an 'invisible killer' and it prevents many people from living a fully active life. The actions we are proposing will halve the number of premature deaths from air pollution and improve quality of life for all. It's also good news for nature and fragile ecosystems." According to the EU plan, which is entitled Environment: New policy package to clean up Europe’s air, the total external health-related costs to society from air pollution are estimated to be in the range of €330-940 billion per year. The situation is especially severe in urban areas, which are now home to a majority of Europeans.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) also said recently: “We now know that outdoor air pollution is not only a major risk to health in general, but also a leading environmental cause of cancer deaths.” There is a great deal of interest from potential users of battery powered vehicles. People with off-road parking will be able to recharge overnight and many organisations are providing facilities for the public. In London alone about 1700 recharging points have already been installed for battery electric vehicles.

Green MotorSport is currently in arrangements with sponsors and would like to invite your company to join us.
