The fully-electric boat project was conceived in 2014 after Gordon Foat of Green MotorSport witnessed the serious level of pollution coming from river boats in London. In Feb 2015 Foat’s team started work on the drive train and preparing the hull. UMA was launched into the water in early Nov 2015. It has been regularly ploughing up and down the Thames from Nine Elms to Westminster for the last few years. The boat was used to test and evaluate the motor and battery system, as well as provide clean green daily transport along one of the most demanding tidal rivers in the world.
Green MotorSport is a member of the World Advanced Vehicle Expedition (WAVE), which every year drives around Europe powered by wind, sun or biomass energy. On the last WAVE, Gordon Foat drove his prototype service vehicle called the Tapir across 4,000 kilometers, including the highest point in Europe, powered by the sun. Continue Reading ->
